About Well Adapt www.well-adapt.com

Well Adapt’s goal is to transform the chronic illness journey. Many people with chronic health conditions feel abandoned by the healthcare system, left to cope with pain, fatigue, and mobility changes alone. We provide disabled and chronically ill people with resources to manage their symptoms while partnering with healthcare providers and policymakers to build better chronic illness care systems.

About the role

This internship supports community engagement and disability advocacy, with a focus on the COVID Inquiry. You’ll help coordinate meetings with Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs), manage social media content, and respond to followers to build an inclusive online presence. The role also involves outreach to disabled individuals, drafting accessible communications, and updating web content. You’ll contribute to research on health inequality and disability policy, and help review key inquiry documents. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about disability justice, looking to gain hands-on experience in digital communications, advocacy, and inclusive community-building.

What you’ll be doing

  • Support the coordination and organisation of meetings with Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) related to the COVID Inquiry
  • Create engaging social media content on topics including the COVID Inquiry, health equity, and disability advocacy
  • Monitor and interact with social media followers, responding to comments and direct messages to build community engagement
  • Draft press releases and contribute to the development of blog posts and other web content
  • Update and maintain the company website with relevant news and resources
  • Conduct outreach to disabled individuals and DPOs to encourage engagement and participation in advocacy work
  • Carry out desk research on health inequality, disability policy, and related topics
  • Reviewing reports and statements from the COVID inquiry
  • Provide administrative support across various projects as needed

Equal Opportunities

At Well Adapt, we’re committed to building a team that reflects the rich diversity of the communities we work with. We actively welcome applications from disabled people, chronically ill people, people of colour, LGBTQIA+ people, and anyone whose experiences are shaped by marginalisation. We know that lived experience is valuable expertise.

As an organisation run for and by disabled people, we are committed to meeting the accessibility needs of applicants and employees. Please let us know by email at [email protected] if there’s anything you need to be able to engage with the recruitment process to the best of your ability.

How to apply

Please apply as soon as possible by sending the following to this email [email protected]:

  • Your CV
  • Your answer to the question “Why do you care about disability advocacy?”. You are welcome to send this in text or voice note. Please keep the answer to 100-200 words or 1-2 minutes.

Please do not send a pro-forma cover letter. As stated in the essential qualities, attention to detail is important in this role. Sending a cover letter instead of answering the requested question will not demonstrate this ability.

Please do not use generative AI such as chatGPT to generate an answer to the above question. We are all for the use of tools to make job applications as accessible as possible e.g. Text to speech software or using AI to extract information from your CV for a pro-forma cover letter. However in this case we want to know why you care about disability advocacy, not why chatGPT does. It doesn’t need to be eloquently written, just genuinely felt.

If you are successful at the CV stage of your application, we will ask you to do a paid interview task in the week of the 4th August. If you are successful at the task stage of your application you will be invited to interview on the week of the 11th August. The successful candidate will be informed on the week of the 18th August. The role will begin on the 25th August.
